honoring mother earth

honoring mother earth

It's easy to forget about her. It's easy to take her for granted. To drive in hours of traffic with out a second thought, or forget to recycle and collect a stockpile of plastic bags, containers, and bottles, because life is busy, and plastic is everywhere. I'm not perfect myself and I'm not here to judge, but I'm recognizing more and more that the whole reduce, reuse, recycle thing, is most importantly about reducing. Can you use less? Can you buy less plastic? Can you plan ahead a bit better?

Though sometimes we may feel like the center of the universe, we're not. And this planet - this place - is a resource. It's not unlimited, it's alive, and we have to remember to do our part to take care of it.  Just as you take care of your apartment, your home, your body.  Today, think about what you can do to improve this shared home.  Perhaps you learn how to compost. Or maybe you explore how to best recycle in your area. What if today you didn't buy anything plastic? Your actions, however small they may seem really do matter.

Today, I'm reminded of the impact of compassion, of care, and of kindness. In the words of Margaret Mead: Never doubt that a small group of thoughtful, committed citizens can change the world. Indeed, it is the only thing that ever has.

May we work to change the world for the better.
