this little light of mine, I'm gonna' let it shine

this little light of mine

I am a Leo baby and as my birthday fast approaches, I've been reflecting on my place here on this planet, and what it means to really shine at the center of a life.  Inspiring much of this contemplation is the sun itself. It burns, it blazes, it creates.

Nevertheless, there is a certain vulnerability to the sun that I find deeply inspiring – the sun has nowhere to hide in our solar system. It has to show up each and every moment, to sustain and burn, flaming constantly – fulfilling its purpose. To me, it serves as a great reminder to show up for myself and for my life – even when I don't feel like it.

There are days I don't feel like shining. There are days when I feel aimless, like I’ve lost my purpose. There are days when I feel jealous of the bright light of another.

But as I consider and dive deeper into my own gifts and what gives me meaning in this life, I’m reminded that there is enough abundance and light to go around.

Indeed, I'm realizing the purpose is to really light our own inner sun so that our radiance can encourage others to do the same. We are not shining in spite of each other, we are shining to inspire one another.

Today, I invite you to consider some questions I’ve been mulling over:

  • Where are you afraid to shine?
  • How can you shine more brightly in this life?
  • What do you shine for? What do you burn for?

The world needs people who are ablaze with purpose and passion. Don’t be afraid to ignite your own spark and shine brightly. Stop waiting for the light, and start remembering it exists inside you.
